In broad daylight in Montral’s busy Jeanne-Mance Park on Saturday, a 24-year-old man allegedly tried to walk off with a seven-year-old girl. The girl’s father members tackled the man, and had a little help holding him until police arrived: former NHL enforcer Georges Laraque, who was nearby playing in a charity baseball game.
“The dad is the hero here,” Laraque said, “because he’s the one that caught the aggressor, he beat him up, but he was able to stop. Me, if someone had done this to my daughter, I’m off to prison because I’d kill him for sure.”
Laraque was among a couple dozen people who surrounded the suspect until police came to arrest him. “I’m not Batman,” Laraque said. “Any citizen would have done the same thing.”
